Alexander Millar was born in 1960 in the small mining community of Springside, a few miles from Kilmarnock. Alexander Millar's father worked for British Rail & consequently he spent much of his early years sitting in steam filled stations where the atmosphere & nostalgic setting was to have a big influence on many of his later paintings.

In 1976 Alexander Millar left school & moved to Newcastle where, after a number of different jobs, he finally settled down in 1988 to become a professional artist.

Alexander Millar is completely self taught & had one of his paintings chosen as a finalist in the Daily Mail's "Not the Turner Prize", which was subsequently exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London. Alexander Millar has successfully developed his own style and uses images from his childhood as focus for much of his work.
